The over 23 program has permitted a new window of opportunity to people with different life
backgrounds.
People who have given up schooling for several reasons and have now found an opportunity
to fulfill a lifelong dream of getting a PhD.
Difficulties during this road are visible in this report «Over 23 PhD candidates», directed in the
5th of July 2010 by RTP Azores, with duration of approximately two minutes, with Azores
university students, where three ex-students of this program, make reference to the hardship
in this course. You can appreciate their effort and determination in finishing this learning
process with the purpose of rising up to their professional challenges.
To notice, that the over 23 program is news when something new comes up, for example,
when the program first began or when there are any new elements or method which deserves
the media’s attention. In the news making process, there are values, better said, criteria, which
fundament (or not) media coverage.
In statistical terms, for example in Azores University, the students which course this program
are considered the best. We hope that in the going of these last few years the opportunities
which they ambitioned along their lives have come up and that without the finished PhD
would never be possible.
Not always opportunities immediately appear after the graduation in any area. The first PhD
graduates from the program have concluded their degrees between 2008 and 2009.
As they say, knowledge takes no space and certainly doesn´t discriminate any age
demographics!
